Metal denture frameworks are made out of cobalt chrome, an incredibly strong and lightweight metal which is extremely resistant to corrosion and completely hypoallergenic.
Metal is a lot stronger than acrylic plastic. This strength allows the metal denture framework to be much thinner, and more durable than its acrylic counterpart. The traditional acrylic base is more affordable, but it is also more bulky and tends to have a loose fit in the mouth, whereas metal denture frameworks are lightweight and have a precise fit.
Partial metal dentures can last as many as 15 years, however, it is very common for a denture patient to have significant changes in their mouth before they can reach 15 years.
